About
Steven McCardle
I'm a Norfolk based artist, born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1978. My creative journey brought me to London in 2007 and finally to the picturesque landscapes of Norfolk in 2021. For over two decades, I've worked as a designer, a career that has continually fuelled my passion for creating art.
My artistic inspiration first ignited at the age of ten during a trip to the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. There, I was captivated by Vincent van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles, with its vibrant colour palette and distinctive brushstrokes. This early encounter deeply influenced my perspective and remains a touchstone for my work.
My art explores the fascinating tension between the digital and the real world. I create a fusion of digital pixelation and tangible reality, with a style that encourages viewers to take a step back to appreciate the full picture. My work draws inspiration from people, landscapes, architecture, and fellow artists.
The artists who inspire me are a diverse group, including Van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, David Hockney, Banksy, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein, Georges Seurat, and Bridget Riley. Their innovative approaches to colour, form, and composition have all played a part in shaping my artistic vision.
I am available for commissions and would love to hear from you if you are interested in a unique piece for your home or business.
